How can I become a Barion shop?
Note that you can only create a new shop online, not through the Barion mobile app.
Register a Barion Wallet either
Log in to your Barion Wallet online, and on the Shops screen, click +Create new shop.
Enter the name of the shop, and click "Save as draft" at the bottom of the shop creation form.
This generates a secret identification code (POS key), and the Pixel ID for your Barion Shop, necessary for later setup.
You'll find your POS key and Pixel ID on the Shops>Actions>Details screen online.
Go to Shops>Actions>Modify, and fill in the rest of the details in the shop creation form.
Guidelines for filling in the form:
Shop name: The recipient name that your customers see in the notification email that they get from Barion when they pay through the Barion Smart Gateway. Needs to be unique across all Barion Shops.
Choose a name that clearly identifies your shop to your customers.
If you're creating this shop for use with an invoicing app, enter the name of your business organization.
Shop URL: This is necessary for Barion to be able to check the context where you'd like to accept payments.
The value for this form input depends on how you'd like to use Barion as a payment gateway provider:
If you'll be using Barion in a webshop, enter the URL of your website. The URL address needs to have a https certificate, and be regarded as secure by commonly used browsers.
If your shop doesn't have a public URL, see the "other data" input field below.
Shop description: A brief (20- to 200-character) description of the products/services available in your shop for Barion's information. This won't be shared with your customers.
Shop logo: A unique logo associated with your webshop. This logo will be displayed on your shop's checkout screen, and in confirmation emails to your customers.
Shop category: Pick one or more categories that fit your business activity (in case you're creating this Barion Shop for use with an invoicing app), or the products or services you sell (if you're creating this Barion Shop to use with a webshop).
Note that some products and services are subject to notification or authorization when sold online. Get in touch with the dedicated Barion team if your business activity is restricted locally or internationally.
If you're offering unusual retail products, send an email to merchanthelpdesk@barion.com for pre-assessment.
Contacts: The contact details of the people Barion can get in touch with about business, technical, and customer care issues.
Note that the customer service contact person's details are shared with your shoppers.
Other data: If your site isn't public, provide credentials (such as the username, and password for a test user) for Barion to be able to log in and attempt a trial purchase in your webshop.
This is the only optional field.
Primary currency: The default currency that your webshop accepts.
Expected turnover: The monthly turnover that you expect in your Barion Shop.
Average basket value: The average basket value is your total expected turnover divided by the number of expected transactions, in your shop's primary currency, e.g. HUF 10,000.
Share of business customers: The expected percentage of companies or businesses buying from your Barion Shop.
Share of foreign cards: The expected percentage of non-EU cards used in your Barion Shop.
Note that your starting Barion fees depend on the expectations that you enter here. If your expectations about turnover, average basket value, and share of foreign and business users turn out to be incorrect, Barion will get in touch in a few months' time to discuss updated fees.
Where did you hear about Barion?: Select an option in the drop-down list.
Use the checklist in the form to make sure that you've met all the customer info and card company requirements to get your Barion Shop approved:
"I would like to use the shop with a billing software only" Select this option only if you'll conduct your business exclusively via an invoicing app such as InnVoice, Billingo, or Superfaktura, that is, sending your shoppers invoices by email, and not accessing the Smart Payment Gateway through a webshop.
If you select this option, indicate in the "Other data" field whether you'll be creating the invoice before or after purchases, and the number of days this usually takes you.
This option is currently only available in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
If you're using Szamlazz.hu, register your Barion shop on your szamlazz.hu account first – here's their guide on how to do this. Barion also has a detailed video guide (in Hungarian) about integrating Szamlazz.hu.
"Your business is the owner of the webshop's domain name" A card company prerequisite for accepting bank card payments online is that you must be the operator of the webshop, and the proprietor of the webshop's domain name.
"The Barion acceptance mark has been placed on the site of the shop" Download and display the Barion logo strip of accepted payment methods without modification on both the main page and the payment page of your webshop. Download in multiple formats (PNG, WMF,AI, CDR, SVG): https://download.barion.com/barion/barion-smart-payment-banners.zip
You can implement this prerequisite only once your Barion Shop is approved. In this case, use a switch in the URL parameter, and indicate this in the "Other data" form field.
"General Terms and Conditions/Terms of Purchase on the site of the shop"
"The General Terms and Conditions or Terms of Purchase are a prerequisite to purchase (e.g. as a to-do checkbox for the customer), and include
average delivery/order completion information.
The GT&Cs and the Terms of Purchase may not be included as a pdf file.
The following is a good example to copy and paste: Online bank card payments as well as payments using other payment methods are executed via the Barion system. The merchant does not get or store bank card or any other payment data. Barion Payment Inc., the provider of this service, is an institution under the authority of the Central Bank of Hungary, its license number is: H-EN-I-1064/2013.
For reference, here's the Hungarian consumer protection agency's guidance on e-commerce.
"The site of shop has a privacy notice"
GDPR requirements mandate a privacy notice on the website.
"Products/services are available at the shop"
During our trial purchase we check whether the products are available in their final form on the site, whether they are priced and available for purchase for a real price, and whether they have a description.
"Completed Barion integration"
The integration of Barion is necessary so that we can perform the trial purchase in a real environment on real products/services, and to see whether the web-shop functions normally, and is in compliance with the card company and legal requirements.
"Top up your Barion Wallet from your bank account (not with bank card!) with an optional amount"
Top up your Barion Wallet using a bank account owned by the individual owner of the Wallet, or a bank account registered to the business associated with the Barion Wallet.
Read the article on topping up for more information.
Click Save as draft when you're done, and then, if the automated checks pass, Submit on the next screen to submit the Barion shop for approval.
Wait for our team to approve your shop creation request, and get back to you via email with next steps.
This usually takes a few business days.
